Clipper Ex-1 Exhaust Temp Monitor & Alarm

EX-1 Exhaust Temperature Monitor/Alarm

The EX-1 continually displays the exhaust gas temperature in wet exhaust systems giving advanced warning of potential problems.

The EX-1 measures the exhaust gas temperature directly and displays it in degrees centigrade or Fahrenheit. Once the normal working temperature has been established a maximum temperature, a few degrees higher, can be programmed into the EX-1 which will then sound an alarm if that temperature is exceeded.Even a small rise in temperature can indicate a potential problem such as a minor blockage, leak or failing pump which can be corrected before a complete failure occurs.

A great addition to the dash June 30, 2015

I've a pair of Cummins 370 hp motors in my 38' express cruiser.  From what I understand, if you have a cooling problem with the raw water side, you'll likely burn up the rubber exhaust before you see the overheat on the engine.

These temperature gauges are extremely easy to install, a small hole in the rubber hose - strap in the sensor.  A pair of wires to the dash and power off another gauge or circuit - and you're done.

They are very precise and show the temperature of the exhaust flow just after the water mixes.

Basically, I'm looking at a mechanically injected engine that will destroy itself if something goes wrong - this is great info at a cheap price.  I looked at the simpler external temperature limit switches that people typically strap on the outside of the rubber exhaust hose - too slow to react and no data other than the alarm state.

My ONLY criticism is that they are rather large displays and don't combine into a single gauge for dual installations.

Product was easy to install and setup.  I installed the unit on my Volvo 7.4GI and it shows temperature of 125 degrees when running at 3300 rpm.
