I purchased the 1670 as a primary GPS and backup plotter to my aging laptop based Nobeltec plotter. The GPS is much superior to the 21 year old Raytheon it is replacing. It successfully gets a signal in my pilothouse (even moored under a steel cover) without requiring running a new wire to an external antenna. But creating and accessing waypoints, working with routes, and using current and tide information is much more tedious than the laptop based software I am accustomed to. With continued use I am hoping working with the 1670 becomes more intuitive. I was also disappointed the 1670 required a $190 data converter and a $100 NMEA 2000 backbone system to transmit 0183 data to my autopilot, laptop, and radar.
