very nice combo. The down fall is that you need to spend more money for the graphics card in order to get good GPS detail

Everything works but the instruction manual is a CD. Since I dont carry a laptop with me it makes it difficult to learn the different functions. Also you have to buy an additional chart card to gain peek performance. I would not buy again. Very expensive for what you actually get.

About Hodges and Humminbird 597 November 17, 2011

I am a repeat customer with Hodges.  Invariably they have the best prices on the internet.   Shipment is fast and price is fair.

About the Humminbird 597:  Screen colors in daytime use are excellent.   Ease of use compared to my old Eagle is much more user friendly.   Unit has a permanent mount you screw to your boat, this mount also contains your cabling, you simply push the 597 down onto the mount and you are connected.  Seems handy and simple, however, the 597 is rather difficult to remove.

Down Imaging usefulness seems overhyped.   Sonar takes a while to find how you want to set it for use.    Users manual could be better.

The GPS is somewhat disappointing.   The boat symbol showing your position doesn't know which way to point when boat is moving slowly.   And, it doesn't lock on to satellites as well as a Bass Pro salesperson said it would.   When in small lake inlets it appears I am on land many times; not sure if thats the Lake card fault or the Humminbird system.

Like the down imaging works great not comfortable with the fish finder need to use it more that goes for the GPS had a Lowarnce before.If I had to do it all over I would buy the Humminbird again

the 597 ci HD DI is a pretty good fishfinder. The screen is really clear and I like the options that come with it. The only thing I wish they would of had is a manuel along with the dvd as I don't really take a dvd player with me fishing. Also, the help line is no good if you are only fishing on the weekends as they are only open during the weekdays.

Excellent quality as usual from Humminbird.  Was looking at Lowrance units as well, but after doing the research decided to go with the 'bird.  Image quality is second to none and installation was quick and easy.  The only wish is a more detailed instruction manual.  You can download one fron Humminbird's website, but that does me little good in the middle of a lake.  The controls are intuitive however.  Excellent service and fast shipping from Hodge's too!

I am very satisfied, super fast delivery, I finally got the fishfinder mounted in my boat and love it. It will take me a long time to figure it all out, not much good at computer stuff.
