Shakespeare 5400-XP 4' VHF Antenna October 6, 2010

Top quality construction and great performance.  This relatively short antenna performs exceptionally well. Very clear transmissions and great ability to receive weak signals.   While most boaters never hear radio transmissions from their transceiver (they are normally the individuals on the boat making them) by contrast I am often on the receiving end of transmissions as it is my kids using this particular boat  -Thus I can attest to the performance of the antenna even at ranges of 17 nm.   I would highly recommend all of the Shakespeare Galaxy XP products.  I also run a couple of 8' 5225-XP antennas that perform equally well.   Stay away from cheap antennas that are nothing more than a piece of coax with the braid stripped back.  The XP or XT are worth the money and perform measurably better.
