Great Remote Microphone, Hard to Install in Cases August 25, 2014
Reviewer: RB from Puget Sound
Good:  This microphone works well and has the controls well placed.

Not so good: The AIS display on the microphone screen is too small.  If this is used with one of Standard Horizon's VHF radios with integrated AIS receiver I recommend that the radio be interfaced to a chart plotter.

Bad:  Standard Horizon uses fairly large connectors at both ends of the microphone cable. It is impossible to fish the cable inside small cable runs.  To do this one has to cut the cable, route it, and splice together a number of very small wires, not something that is very easy to do.  I ended up splicing with IDC connectors that are really designed for solid wire, instead of stranded, and they seemed to work OK.

Standard Horizon should realize that their connectors will often not fit in a wire run.  They should provide a cable pulling fitting that attaches to the connector and streamlines it, or should provide a splicing kit as an accessory.

Totally Necessary! August 5, 2011
Reviewer: Shane from NSW AUSTRALIA
Due the fact I sail a lot solo, I really needed on of these units in the cockpit.  I was originally looking at the Icom set-ups, but was won over by the fact this one could be integrated with an inbuilt AIS receiving main unit at a very reasonable price.

RAM Mic Install May 9, 2011
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Chesapeake Bay
Installed with the GX2150 and interfaced to a Garmin GPSMAP 720.Interfaced easily to a Garmin GPSMAP 720.All AIS and DSC info transfers seamlessly. The garmin 720 sends the gps info to the Gx2150 and auto starts when power is applied to the same breaker as the VHF.The RAM Mic has a great display and separate volume from the base unit.

Standard Horizon Ram Mic. September 2, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Dennis, MA United States
Very pleased with the Ram 3, using it with the GX2100 AIS VHF radio.  Has all the needed features and saves space on the dash by not having the radio there.  Would highly recommend.
